Going in, I wasn’t expecting one of the most extraordinary yet somewhat disturbing and cringy films I’ve ever seen. The abnormal unpleasantness is why I’d like to suggest, even though I’m describing it this way, that you add this to your must-sees for 2023.

“Next Goal Wins” is a comedy based on a documentary of true events. A very bad soccer team from American Samoa had one of the worst games ever. But perhaps the losing streak is now about to be over. “What has been given can be taken away.” Great MCU films could be what the quote is referring to. Well, I won’t be that harsh on “The Marvels.” If you’re a teen or younger and have followed all the stories of the younger characters in the MCU, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the flick. If you don’t fit into these categories but still do like the Marvel Comics movies, consider this an at-home watch when you have the time.

“The Mission” is a documentary about a tragic and preventable event. In 2018, an evangelical adventure-seeker decided to reach for his life’s dream. He want to ‘spread the Gospel’ to one of the only places in the world which had never been reached by the Western World. His motives were pure, but his methods were a little suspect. The outcome was inevitable. His desire to share the word of ‘Eternal Life’ — led to his ultimate death.
If you ever saw “Sideways,” you’ll want to see this. I say that because I liked that movie so much, I would guess I’ve seen it ten times… maybe more. Anyhow, this film is director Alexander Payne (Nebraska, Election) and actor Paul Giamatti’s (John Adams, Private Parts) second time working together.

The Writer and Director is the daughter of an immigrant family from Iran, who has created a humorous movie about the daughter of an immigrant family from Iran.
