“Supergirl” is a strong, messy, and sassy romp into the laid-back life of Superman’s younger cousin. This girl is more into Super-Party-Time than into Super-Heroics. She’s all about ‘Fun under the Red Sun’. Until she meets a young girl on a quest for revenge.
Her name is Kara Zor-El (played by Milly Alcock). She comes from the same planet as her older cousin, Clark Kent/Superman (played by David Corenswet). Clark was sent away from the planet Krypton before Kara was even born.
Her parents found a way to create a colony of Kryptonians out in space. Kara was born on the floating salvage ship. But there was dangerous Kyptonite embedded in the colony. To save Kara Zor-El, her folks sent her off to Earth to stay with her cousin Clark.
Kara, like Clark, gets all Super-enhanced when under a Yellow sun, like near Earth. But for Kara to drown her sorrows and party, she needs to go off-world. She finds other planets. Where there is a Run sun, she loses all the Super-powers and stuff.
It’s where she is at, under a Red sun – with her cute Super-frisky dog Krypto. On her 23rd birthday, she is able to party and drink. She can get drunk and act stupid. Not like back on Earth, where the Yellow sun gives her powers (and takes away the affects of alcohol).
She is unlike Clark Kent, who was raised by a nice couple of farmers in the Mid-West. They raised him and taught him traits like caring, politeness and modesty. Kara Zor-El, who lived a difficult childhood — she has no such attitude. Her guidelines are to ‘do good and be good’. But there is no rule about being nice to anyone.
Kara does not know on this planet there is group of awful space pirates. These bad guys are lead by a major monster named Krem of the Yellow Hills (played by Matthias Schoenaerts). He is the leader of this group called the Brigands. They cause pain and havoc wherever they go. On this planet, they have killed a small family.
The one daughter who has survived the assault from the Brigands is named Ruthye (played by Eve Ridley). Her father was a crafter of swords. Since that lunatic named Krem has killed her family, Ruthye pledges revenge and death upon Krem.
Krem also gets on Kara’s bad side. His dangerous henchmen steal her spaceship. But worst of all, they poison Kara’s best friend and companion – her frisky Super-cute dog Krypto. There are three days for this pooch to live. Unless Kara can get to Krem — and get the antidote — she will become even more lonely and morose.
Ruthye works her way into going with Kara Zor-El. They have no clue where Krem has disappeared to, or how to find him. Kara tries to talk Ruthye out of the revenge/murder plan. That never works out well for anyone. But the Interstellar Bus they are on is attacked by some different Brigands.
That leads Ruthye and Kara to a different planet. This is Krem and ‘Mad Max wannabes’ are up to more mayhem. They plan to steal all the young women and sell them into slavery and bondage. Kara is able open up her Super-powered can of kick-ass.
Before they are able to capture Krem, there is another Intergalactic Bounty Hunter that shows up. His name is Lobo (played by Jason Momoa). He might not have all the Super-abilities, but this guy is really mean and cruel — and has lots of fun taking out the bad guys.
They wind up on Krem’s planet. But here Kara Zor-El has some problems. There is a binary sun system. When the Yellow sun is out Kara has all of her Super-strength. But when the Green sun is out, it affects her like Kryptonite. Kara becomes weak and ill. She is near death.
Ruthye is captured by Krem criminals. Lobo also showed up to get Krem as a Bounty. But now he is also captured. Now there are difficult situations for all. Kara’s health is failing, unless the Yellow sun comes out. Lobo and Ruthye are being held prisoners by Krem. And poor Krypto is slowly being poisoned. Unless the antidote can be taken from the Evil Krem…
Kara Zor-El will need to get her Super-powers back in action. Ruthye and Lobo need to find a way to escape from Krem’s prison. Krem needs to find a whole lot more henchmen – because when any of them fight Supergirl, they always lose.

“Supergirl” is the follow up movie to the 2025 “Superman”. This digs into the background and lore of the other movie. The origin point of Krypton plays a big part in the Super-abilities of Supergirl.
Milly Alcock handles the Supergirl role pretty well, in the sense of getting the correct vibe of person not too interested in doing ‘Great Things’. She is more likely to drink and party under a Red sun, rather than fight for Truth, Justice, and All That Jazz…
She is slack-jawed and flippant, but when she sees that her beloved Krypto is in danger – she will turn into a Super-pissed fighter. Eve Ridley (as Ruthye) is a vengeance seeking sidekick. Supergirl finally gets Ruthye to back down from her anger. But leave it to Supergirl to finish the job.
Jason Momoa, playing Lobo, is all in for an energized performance. He bring a vitality to the screen every time he shows up. Matthias Schoenaerts, on the other hand, is stuck being the villain Krem. He does not make much of an impact in the movie. Other than he looks like an extra from “Mad Max: Fury Road”.
This is going to be a big part of the New and Improved “DC Extended Universe”, according to Jams Gunn. Well, that job to make it ‘Improved’ might not actually be accurate. Between “Superman” and now “Supergirl”, the DCEU might be turning off as many potential fans as it might attract. Getting a product up to screen requires a lot of planning and talent. They have the talent, but the execution is lacking.
“Supergirl” is going to try and attract as many fans and near-fans as it possibly can. But it needs to be a showcase for Greatness – not just a sideshow of Super-Meh…
