Marvel Studios announced that production has begun on āBlack Panther,ā starring Chadwick Boseman (āCaptain America: Civil War,āĀ āGet on Upā), Michael B. Jordan (āCreed,ā āFruitvale Stationā), Academy AwardĀ® winner Lupita Nyongāo (āStar Wars: The Force Awakens,ā ā12 Years a Slaveā), Danai Gurira (āThe Walking Dead,ā upcoming āAll Eyez on Meā), Martin Freeman (āHobbitā trilogy, āSherlockā), Daniel Kaluuya (upcoming āGet Out,ā āSicarioā),Ā with Academy AwardĀ® nominee Angela Bassett (āAmerican Horror Story,ā āLondon Has Fallenā), with Academy AwardĀ® winner Forest Whitaker (āRogue One: A Star Wars Story,ā Lee Danielsā āThe Butlerā), and Andy Serkis (āAvengers: Age of Ultron,ā āStar Wars: The Force Awakensā).

Ryan Coogler (āCreed,ā āFruitvale Stationā) directs Marvel Studiosā āBlack Pantherā from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole (āThe People v. O.J. Simpson:Ā American Crime Storyā).Ā The film, which opens in U.S. theaters on February 16, 2018, will be shot in Atlanta and South Korea.Ā Ā

āBlack Pantherā follows TāChalla who, after the events of āCaptain America: Civil War,ā returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, TāChallaās mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.Ā
