“Call of the Wild” is based on the novel by Jack London. It is about the adventure and the danger found in the Yukon territory during the Gold Rush. The main character is a rugged outdoorsman, a prospector who values his freedom over gold. He meets up and befriends a very large dog, and they make their way up North into a massive and open wilderness. Harrison Ford plays the main role, and his adventures with Buck, the dog, are quite something to behold. Harrison Ford with a very, very big dog – you might want to call it “Raiders of the Lost Bark”, or “The Empire Barks Back”…. Read more

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review
“Sonic the Hedgehog” is a movie based on a video game of the same name. Just ask ‘Laura Croft: Tomb Raider’ how that usually works. (In a word – badly.) But lo-and-behold, the Sega Video Game people got all the correct creative types in a room and came up with – wait for it – a pretty darn good movie. It is attractive for kids who have played the game, and does not offend the parents of those same kids. Read more
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) Movie Review
“Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a major title for a major movie. Plus it is comic-book-based movie from DC, part of that weak sauce concept called the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). Compared to Marvel’s version, this Universe must be only a couple light-years across. But more recently, the DCEU has picked up momentum and it is expanding into wider and better spaces. Read more
The Rhythm Section Movie Review
“The Rhythm Section” is a movie that imagines itself as the new ‘Jason Bourne’. But it winds up being more like a ‘Jason Boring’. The root of the story is a personal tragedy that first numbs the main character and turns her into a drug addict. But after learning some information about the tragedy, it then motivates her to become a steely-eyed professional assassin. Read more
Dolittle Movie Review
“Dolittle” is a ridiculously goofy romp into family-friendly fun and frolic. It takes an established character, Dr. John Dolittle, who has been explored in many books and other movies – and gives him a new and updated spin. The main man has been played by Rex Harrison and Eddie Murphy in the past. So now a new actor has been selected to portray the Doctor who can ‘talk to the animals, just imagine it’. Read more
Underwater Movie Review
“Underwater” is a science-fiction based movie that veers into horror, and it takes a tense route to get there. No matter that the overall premise is bit unrealistic. The idea is that near-future oil drilling can be done at the bottom of the ocean, and at the deepest depths of the Marianas Trench. Read more
Just Mercy Movie Review
“Just Mercy” is a moving and emotional plea to end the death penalty and create a fairer justice system. That sounds like it could be a boring and high-handed attempt to push you to believe one way or another. But in reality, it is a powerful view of Southern poverty and bigotry and how it overwhelms the justice bureaucracy. Read more
Movie Trends in 2019
As opposed to a ‘2019 Best of’ (or even a ‘2019 Worst of’) listing – these are some thoughts about the ongoing trends in movies. Some of these are positive, but there are quite a few that are not! Read more
1917 Movie Review
“1917” is visually lush look back to World War I into the trenches of death and destruction. It takes you on a non-stop journey following two officers going out over the “No Man’s Land” of the front to bring an important message to a squad ready for attack. Read more
Cats Movie Review
“Cats” is, well – it is something that was captured with film cameras. That… and a whole ton of CGI special effects that make the people in the movie resemble a cat. Read more
