Showing Up Movie Review

Director Kelly Reichardt and Michelle Williams have made several films together. After this, it looks as if their collaborations aren’t going to stop. They seem to know one another as well as any couple does. “Showing Up” doesn’t have a lot of dialogue and what it does have is often repeated and arbitrary. Most of the story comes from its delightful visuals if you understand where Reichardt is coming from. Williams has a lot of talent and skill and uses it here.

Timothy Scott Bogart is the son of the subject of “Spinning Gold,” Neil Bogart, an American record executive, played by Jeremy Jordan. Timothy is this film’s writer, director and producer about the beginning of Casablanca Records and his father, Neil Jordan, the man who made the label, against all odds, come to life.​

As I left the screening, “Wow!” repeatedly played in my head. I had to tell the studio representative more than wow, so by the time I spoke to her, after “Wow!” I told her that I couldn’t believe this was written and directed by Zach Braff. Don’t get me wrong, that’s nothing against him, but he’s my hysterical J.D. from “Scrubs!” I know he’s so much more, but this was, too. ​
