Showing Up Movie Review

Director Kelly Reichardt and Michelle Williams have made several films together. After this, it looks as if their collaborations aren’t going to stop. They seem to know one another as well as any couple does. “Showing Up” doesn’t have a lot of dialogue and what it does have is often repeated and arbitrary. Most of the story comes from its delightful visuals if you understand where Reichardt is coming from. Williams has a lot of talent and skill and uses it here.

The Whale Movie Review

Knowing nothing about “The Whale,” except that it stars Brendan Fraser, is the best way to see this movie. Try not to watch or read that much about it. It’s the unknown that holds your interest. Imagine my surprise when halfway through the hour-and-a-half movie, I hadn’t received a storyline matching either of the descriptions I had been expecting. I was perplexed. However, I do acknowledge that what I saw was spectacular beauty. I also witnessed one of my favorite actresses make it impossible for me to turn away from the screen.

The Inspection Movie Review

I liked “The Inspection” but found it regurgitated a lot from “An Officer and a Gentleman.” There were several scenes that dealt with similar themes and others that looked and felt like a carbon copy of the Taylor Hackford film. Of course, there is one big difference, and that difference is what ultimately makes “The Inspection” worth seeing. It’s somewhat autobiographical as director Elegance Bratton relives his own experience in boot camp as a gay Black marine in the mid-2000s.
