Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound.

They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.

Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.Ā

HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES Trailer

TALK TO THE GIRL,Ā SAVE THE WORLD. FROM DIRECTOR JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL, THIS IS THE OFFICIAL TRAILER FORĀ HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES

Based on a story by Neil GaimanĀ

From the raucous dual imaginations of fantasy laureate Neil Gaiman (ā€œAmerican Gods,ā€ CORALINE) and glam-rock multi-hyphenate John Cameron Mitchell (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, SHORTBUS) comes the electrifying and singular pop extravaganza film, HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES.Ā  Enn (Alex Sharp) is a shy suburban London teenager in 1977, sneaking out with his best friends to after-hours punk parties. One night they stumble upon a bizarre gathering of sexy teenagers who seem like they are from another planet.Ā  In fact, they are from another planet, visiting Earth to complete a mysterious rite of passage.Ā  That doesnā€™t stop Enn from falling madly in love with Zan (Elle Fanning), a beautiful and rebellious alien teenager who, despite her allegiance to her strange colony, is fascinated by Enn. Together they embark on a delirious adventure through the kinetic punk rock world of 1970s London, inadvertently setting off a series of events that will lead to the ultimate showdown of punks vs. aliens, and test the limits of how far each of them will go for true love.Ā

Forever My Girl Movie Review

High School sweethearts, Liam (Roe) and Josie (Rothe) are about to get married. We open on Josie and her maid of honor, Kiera (Alexandria), getting her ready for her march down the aisle when through the door comes some devastatingly bad newsā€¦ her groom isnā€™t coming. We cut to eight years later and find out why he left sweet and innocent Josie before her brother could walk her to meet Liam at the altar. Fame and fortune came knocking on his door in a big way (think Blade Shelton) and Mr. Liam Page answered it with a fast lurch of enthusiasm and a bit of self-indulgence, not thinking much about who was getting left behind and hurt in the process. He no longer had time for a wife; only for himself. When we see Liam again, heā€™s on stage singing ā€œDonā€™t Water Down My Whiskey,ā€ which is not only quite good but Alex Roe does sing it himself for the film. Liam performs for a sell-out stadium crowd and has a team of people taking care of him. Fans scream for him to return to the stage after his last song, but he makes his way to his manager and insists he gets him a particular girl in the front row that he had been eyeballing all night.
Iā€™m thinking this is to get us a bit hot under the collar at his behavior. It doesnā€™t exactly work because we can tell right away that heā€™s isnā€™t like a sailor; isnā€™t ā€˜a girl in every portā€™ kind of guy. The girl he sees reminds him of Josie, for whom he has been unable to forget, though he had definitely left her behind to acheā€¦ alone. Itā€™s obvious in some of the following scenes that he has never really tried to rid his memory of her and that outside of casual sex, thinking of her is his only real connection to anyone.

Liam learns that his best friend from High School is killed in a car accident and he takes off for home, leaving behind an already scheduled tour and stunned manager and publicist losing his mind.
Here, the narrative gets a little confusing because he has become incredibly successful, which takes a lot of discipline and when he goes back home, itā€™s implied or downright said buy his father, Pastor Brian (Hickey) that he had gotten into drugs and was a bit of a mess. That perplexity notwithstanding, itā€™s a good build up, even though you do see whatā€™s coming. Though the story wants you to be really irritated with his character, you do like him and you hope that while heā€™s in town to go to his friends funeral, that heā€™ll run into Josie.
So, he runs into Josie and he tries to apologize for his behavior. He tells her that he knows he had put his wants and desires before hers. He wants her to believe him when he says he realizes that you can, basically, have your cake and eat it, too.

Happy to see sheā€™s had success as well, he goes to the flower shop that she owns, to ask her out. She shows him something else that his selfishness caused him to miss out on when he left. She introduces him to her daughter, Billy (Fortson). She was named after Liamā€™s mother. Seeing her and hearing her name, he immediately knows what he could never replace and what he missedā€¦ the birth of his daughter and being there for her and watching her grow up. Billy is smart, cute and nothing gets by her, much like the actress who played her.
Liam begs to be a part of her life and must now prove he is worthy to be in it. A scene where Billy complains about riding in his convertible is simply priceless. She doesnā€™t make jumping into fatherhood easy on him but they get used to one another and she warms up to him rather quickly. When he buys her a guitar, they bond over music and suddenly you can just imagine where a sequel could go.

Forever My Girl follows the pattern of formulaic scripts that have come before it. Itā€™s a, ā€˜boy leaves girl at altar to seek fame and fortune but his roots in the town and in family are buried deep and canā€™t be pulled out quite so easilyā€™ story. But at its core, itā€™s loving and it has a good message of forgiveness. It works. It has a slow-motion, playful montage scene to complete the look but it gives us something that many films of the genre do not; a strong leading male character whoā€™s sensitive and willing to admit heā€™s wrong and give up everything for his true loveā€¦Ā loves.

Brad’s Status Movie Review

Meet Brad.Ā  Heā€™s smart, heā€™s a good husband and father, heā€™s a philanthropist but, largely, heā€™s average.Ā Ā  Well, to himself, heā€™s average and at this point in his life thatā€™s the worst thing he could be.Ā  Brad (Stiller) is a guy who has found middle age an impossibly uncomfortable place to be.Ā  With his son Troy (Abrams) about to go to college, he recalls what he was like at that age and thinks about all the things he wanted, the opportunities he had and what he did with those opportunities.Ā  He has spent most of his adult life comparing himself to the friends he went to college with.Ā  This hasnā€™t helped his self-esteem because most of them are successful, even famous in some circles.

Throughout the film, Brad tells us, through voice-overs, that he doesnā€™t like himself.Ā  His inner thoughts, when he has a conversation with someone, is generally how awful a person he believes himself to be.Ā  Since college, all his best friends have done well for themselves so, ‘whatā€™s to like about me?’Ā  Watching his son advance in life to the point of starting his college days, he worries Troy could turn out like him.Ā  Another fear is, how will he feel if Troy turns out better?Ā  What if he has all the success Brad only dreamed of?

Brad owns and operates a non-profit and though he lives in a nice home and all his needs are met, he believes his lifeā€™s work to be, in his words, ā€˜Absurd.ā€™Ā  He canā€™t see through all of his jealousy and his need to have more, be more.Ā

He continually focuses on his station or status in life, judging whether being wealthy or not speaks to what quality of a person you are.Ā  He wonders how life would be if he were rich like his old friends, who live life as if it was a giant playground while he walks the earth with bills to worry about, finding his ground more in the battle variety.Ā

Where did it go wrong, he asks himself?Ā  The voice-over is there to stay but donā€™t fret, it works correctly to advance the story.Ā  He and Troy take a trip to Boston to visit some universities.Ā  Troy misses the interview with Harvard and Brad calls on a powerful and influential friend, Craig, played by Michael Sheen. Craig comes through for him, beautifully and gets Troy in to speak with the dean.Ā  This moment is big for this young musical prodigy and heā€™s proud of his father.Ā

There are several touching moments in the film between father and son.Ā  Regarding the actual music in the film, it’s completely theatric and necessary.Ā  During Bradā€™s inner dialogue, generally, the scene is accompanied by a single hopping bow across the bridge of a violin.Ā  The sound emanating from the instruments F-Holes directed the mood Brad was in and highlighted the black cloud hanging over his head.Ā  Every note heard fits into the scene perfectly; the film wouldnā€™t have been as good without it.Ā

Troy and Brad have dinner with a friend of Troyā€™s who already attends Harvard and within her, Brad sees the drive and the idealistic intentions he once had.Ā  This was the turning point of the film where he tries to explain to her that wanting to help will not be appreciated and that instead, her efforts will go unnoticed and sheā€™ll be forgotten about.Ā  This conversation with her awakens him because through her judging eyes and her voice he hears and sees his own, or at least who he once was and would rather be again instead of this bitter man he has become.Ā  He has a nice life, doesnā€™t struggle, but always wants more.Ā  When will enough be enough?Ā

He hears of the passing of a favorite professor which hits him hard.Ā  Itā€™s this loss where Brad puts things more into perspective.Ā  Family.Ā  Love.Ā  Time.Ā  Those things are important.Ā  His son, who doesnā€™t see him as a failure is who matters, not old friends that donā€™t call and who, as it turns out, arenā€™t exactly who he thought they were, after all.Ā  Brad is alive.Ā  Time to be alive and live for himself, not for any of them.

Again, the music throughout every scene is spectacular.Ā  Though the character of Brad is depressing you a fair amount of the time, Ben does well with him, carrying the heavy load, so to speak.Ā  Brad will frustrate at times and will move you to tears the next.Ā  The best part is that at no time during this movie will you see a character like Derek Zoolander come through Stiller’s performance.Ā  This is some of the best work I recall seeing from him.Ā  Abramsā€™ portrayal of Troy is competent.Ā  He has a real grasp of the character and is the perfect complement to Stillerā€™s Brad.Ā  When Brad was at his most erratic, Abram watched his co-star and went completely in the opposite direction which thoroughly balanced the movie.

Baby Driver Movie Review

Baby Driver is frenzied; just a CrAzY wild ride!!Ā  It was written, directed and edited with schizophrenic prowess.Ā  In the theatre this weekend, because I know youā€™re going to go see this, sit back and prepare to have your body attacked by an insanely high energy film where there will be no relief for you from the intensity of the madness playing out on the screen.Ā  Your eyes and ears will be assaulted and your body will stiffen but when you walk out of that theatre youā€™re going to say (I know you will) ā€˜I gotta see that again!ā€™Ā  The cinematography, stunts and the special effects are just that good.Ā

The title refers to Baby (Elgort) who is an extremely talented driver of the getaway vehicles he drives for Doc (Spacey).Ā  Doc is the big crime boss of Atlanta; even has some city police in his back pocket.Ā  Not that Baby is long in the tooth, but when he was much younger, Baby did a stupid thing and took what wasnā€™t his; that thing belonged to Doc.Ā  A bit eccentric and untrusting of people, Doc never works with the same crew twice and ever since except for this exceptional driver.Ā  Luckily for Doc, Baby is paying Doc back by driving his bank robbing crew to safety until his debt is square.Ā  Luckily for Baby, who isnā€™t a ā€˜bad guyā€™ that time is coming soon.Ā  The film starts when he only has a few jobs left.Ā  He desperately wants free of this obligation because the crews that Doc is hiring of late are getting worse and things are getting more dangerous.

Whatā€™s so exhilarating about this flick is that we donā€™t go into the bank with the crew and see the heist.Ā  Weā€™re inside the getaway car with Baby, waiting for them to come out and get them to a particular destination where they have yet another vehicle waiting for them to calmly drive away from the getaway car in case they were seen.Ā  When Baby has his earbuds in, we are listening to the music with him and the music makes a lot of these scenes.Ā  Itā€™s a well-chosen soundtrack for us to jam to when heā€™s driving through the gorgeous city of Atlanta; running from cops at high speeds.Ā  Why he loves cars and why he’s into music is because when he was a child, he was in the car when his parents were killed in an accident.Ā  He was listening to music when the car rammed into the back of a truck and ever since, he has a ringing in his ears.Ā  Playing his music is the only thing that momentarily gives him peace from this affliction.Ā  That is until he meets Debora (James).Ā  She gives him hope that there can be a life for him after his criminal behavior.Ā  Debora wants what he wants and in their shared vision of the future, driving fast isnā€™t in the cards.Ā  However, with Doc in the picture, is driving slow an option?

See Baby Driverā€¦ today!!Ā  Youā€™ll laugh, youā€™ll be shocked, and youā€™ll jump out of your seat.Ā  Its fast pace will get your adrenaline running and its ending will surprise you… so will the appearance of Paul Williams!Ā  Now, I KNOW youā€™re intrigued and I know youā€™re seeing it this weekend if not today, right?Ā  Have fun and enjoy one of the best and most unique action films to be released in a long time.

Oasis: Supersonic

Oasis: Supersonic

Ever wonder what happened to the British pop group that came up with the smash hit song ā€œWonderwallā€ and why it happened? Ā Wonder no more and take a peek over that wall and into the lives of the band Oasis and the often contentious and belligerent Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel. Ā Executive producer Asif Kapadi, director of Academy Award winning ā€œAmyā€, the Amy Winehouse biopic, along with director Mat Whitecross, saw a good story in the band that rose too fast and peaked too soon and worked with clips of the band on their rise to the top.

They gathered snippets and collages of interviews and behind the scenes videos and with effective and creative editing came up with an inexplicably engaging documentary youā€™ll most likely want to watch for the soul reason you might have asked yourself some time ago, ā€˜Whatā€™s their story?ā€™ Ā Itā€™s all here in this documentary ā€œOasis: Supersonicā€ that the brothers helped to produce but still couldnā€™t work together enough to dub their voiceover tracks together. Ā Well, theyā€™re still Liam and Noel who, perhaps forever, will look back in angerĀ at one another but not regret a thing as their time in the band, good or bad, gave them the best experiences they could have hoped forā€¦ which was everything they dreamed of.

The film catches a lot of bitter moments but it also lets you in on how such passionate music came from these two creative souls. Ā They became who they did because of an abusive father who abandoned them and because sibling rivalry, which was always an issue. Ā There are five years between them but they seem more like twins, calling themselves ā€œhead-casesā€. Ā They have an older brother, Paul, who Noel is a year younger than, that you see a few times but itā€™s clear these two were close once they started to share a love of music. Ā Liam, who seems to be the more erratic of the two, wants to thank the person who hit him over the head with a hammer for it was this moment his melodic future was born. Ā Noel, the songwriter, released his anger toward his father over abuse, stating that he, ā€˜beat the talent into me.ā€™

The film spans their 1994 debut through the inevitable breakup in 2009 as it shifts from bad moments to good; from members that come and go and the beautiful music that happened in between. Ā During the journey you see the fans who worshipped them and the people who wanted their money and how both affected them greatly. Ā The press could be cruel to them for saying what they wanted to, when they wanted to and doing what they wanted to when they wanted to but that was them. Ā They were rock and roll stars and werenā€™t going to be controlledā€¦ not even by each other. Ā In the end, the good outweighed the bad and Iā€™d have to say that for this, as well. Ā In fact, there is no bad. Ā Itā€™s a fantastic documentary and if youā€™re a fan of Oasis music, itā€™s one to add to your movie collection. Ā This will have you praying they get back together. Ā The thought that excites me is that they watch this and think that very same thing themselves. Ā Letā€™s hope! Ā They canā€™t go off into the Champagne SupernovaĀ just yet.
