The late great George Wein, the creator of the Newport Jazz Festival in the 1960s, felt that New Orleans had to have a music festival of its own. New Orleans had something no other city in the world could claim. It had the birthright of jazz. In time for Valentine’s Day, I advise you to say “Yes” to “Marry Me.” Sadly, I’m more referring to the song performed by Lopez and Latin music star Maluma rather than the movie. No. The movie isn’t that bad for your typical rom com it’s just what it is… your typical rom com. With that said, for a film of this ilk, the songs were quite good all around. ​

“Hard Luck Love Song” was inspired by a song written by an American folk singer/songwriter named Todd Snider. His debut album, “Songs for the Daily Planet,” which came out in 1994, blew my mind. Now in his fifties, Snider still manages to write far-out lyrics that generally tell amusing anecdotes, but with powerful messages.
