At first, I found it somewhat odd that a film would be released about tennis pros Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams (Smith), and not about them. But giving it more thought, that’s essentially in title only, as this is most definitely about the girls and who they grew up to be.

While watching “tick, tick…BOOM!” I was overcome with the impression that the music and overall feeling of the film were similar to that of “Rent.” I’ve seen “Rent” on-screen and live onstage many times, so I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject.

I had heard the term the “Louis Wain Cat” before but had no idea what it meant. Having had no genuine interest in cats until later in life when I got one for my child, I never dove into anything about the mousers. I instead believed that they were more vicious where dogs were more sweet.

“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is an interesting look at the rise and fall of the Bakkers, a televangelist couple who built an empire and saw it crumble around them. They both have warm Northern Minnesota exteriors that make them seem likable and trustworthy. But the eyes that were fixed on a Heavenly gaze would distract from the money skimmed from the ‘church’ donations. Tammy Faye and her eye make-up made them famous, and the fall from grace gave them both a black eye.
That little jeer! When I hear Val Kilmer’s name, I always think of when ‘Ice,’ his character in “Top Gun,” snaps his teeth at a surprised Maverick (Tom Cruise). That image is burned in my brain. It could be because, with the serious actor that Val Kilmer is, he created a backstory for the presence of his almost non-existent character.
