“Everything Went Fine” is a true life story about a family in France who must live with the decision of the elderly father, who no longer wants to live. It is an emotional journey of a family’s pain of dealing with a difficult situation.
“Beau Is Afraid” is a cinematic ‘shaggy dog’ story, with a meandering path to an inconclusive conclusion. The main character is a weak-willed weaselly wuss. As a grown Man-Child, this guy has serious ‘Mommy’ issues. Perhaps in the end, all of his fears will be justified. But the long and tedious road that he takes to get to the end is frustrating and really not worth the effort.
“The Covenant” is a war movie by Director Guy Ritchie. So, it is also known as “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant”. Ritchie mainly has been successful with violent crime dramas that include a lot of brutal action. But now Richie gets a handle on the most violent and brutal action of all – wartime. But his focus is on a relationship of trust and honor between two men from very different backgrounds. Read more
“Renfield” places its tongue firmly within its cheek – then goes bloody crazy and bites the whole thing off. There are winks and nods to original source material (Universal’s traditional Dracula movies) and modern updates with gore, drugs and violence. But this time the main character is not the Master of Evil, but his put-upon servant. Talk about ‘Horrible Bosses’! Read more
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is an animated visual delight of kid-friendly action and video-game player nostalgia. The story is the old basic ‘unlikely hero’ concept where a couple of New York City plumbers save the city. They also save the Mushroom Kingdom, a far-off land of mushrooms and toads, and one lovely princess. Read more
“Murder Mystery 2” is a Netflix release, with a movie produced out of “Happy Madison Productions”. That is Adam Sandler through and through. This might make some people squeal with joy, and it might just make other people squeal. It is a follow-up to a 2019 movie “Murder Mystery”, also on Netflix – and a very popular release. Read more
“Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is a movie that has humble roots in a popular role-playing, dice rolling game. But it simply uses that original game as a jumping-off point to fantasy world of crazy characters and places. With a marvelous sense of witty humor and jokey situations, the cast goes on quests to find artifacts, talisman pendants and secret objects. They create an enjoyable journey of discovery. Read more
“John Wick: Chapter 4” does the opposite of many movie sequel series. It gets better, and more amped up, and full of more brutal action sequences than the prior movies. The hit man saga of ‘John Wick’ hits harder and with a more forceful punch than ever before. There is no shortage of bullets, blades or adrenaline in this action-packed 2 hours, 49 minutes of mayhem and madness. So, strap in for a roller coaster ride of revenge. Read more
“Inside” is a rare hybrid of a movie. There are movies about ‘Art’… And there are ‘Art Movies’. But in this case, it is an ‘Art Movie’ about ‘Art’. More specifically, this is a movie about the theft of Art – or at least the attempt. But when it all goes south, can the Art Thief exist on only paintings, sculptures and other pieces of Art? “Scream VI” takes the horror franchise to somewhere it has never been before – New York City. The Ghostface killer has moved to the Big Apple, to take a slice out of people there. To paraphrase Sinatra – “If I can slash ’em there, I can slash ’em anywhere”. But the extended string of ‘Scream’ movies is wearing very thin.
