A24’s film ‘Eight Grade’ to be the Phoenix Film Festival’s Closing Night Film

A24’s “EIGHTH GRADE” AS CLOSING NIGHT FILM

Writer/Director Bo Burnham will be in attendance

PHOENIX, AZ – Tuesday, March 27 – The Phoenix Film Festival is excited to announce the Closing Night film as A24’s “Eighth Grade”, recently featured as part of the U.S. Dramatic Competition section of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is currently 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Eighth Grade” stars Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, Jake Ryan and is written and directed by Bo Burnham.

Bo Burnham is also a comedian and actor, seen in 2017’s “The Big Sick” and star of 2013’s MTV series, “Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous”. Free Event for Kids of All Ages

PHOENIX (March 19, 2018) – The Phoenix Film Festival has announced the family-friendly, Kids’ Day to take place on Saturday, April 7th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Kids’ Day is presented by IFP/Phoenix and Bookmans and is a great way for kids of all ages to come out and experience the festival. Guests can select from a series of hands-on activity stations focusing on different aspects of film production and geared to various age and ability levels. Stations are age-appropriate and run the full gamut of the filmmaking process. And best yet, it’s FREE! Some of the fun activities include:

  • Walk the red carpet and get a paparazzi photo taken courtesy of Bookman’s
  • See the magic of getting transported to amazing places via a Green Screen
  • Learn tips and tricks on filming with a smartphone
  • Coloring reproductions of the Phoenix Film Festival poster
  • Develop and write the next best-selling screenplay with storytelling games
  • Soundtrack station to create a musical soundtrack to a fun film

In addition, the Phoenix Film Festival Kids’ Day offers a $5 Family Friendly screening of SPACE JAM showing at 1pm!

PHOENIX, AZ (April 4, 2017) – The Phoenix Film Festival welcomes Demetri Martin to this year’s lineup at the feature film showcase of his film “Dean”. Demetri Martin is a popular comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer and humorist and he will appear at the Wednesday, April 12th showing of the film that he directed and also stars in.

Synopsis: Writer/Director/Comedian Demetri Martin stars alongside Academy Award® winner Kevin Kline in this comedic and heartfelt tale about a father and son coming to terms with love, loss and everything in between.  Dean (Martin) is an illustrator whose unwillingness to deal with the recent death of his mother means escaping his hometown of New York for an interview with an ad agency in Los Angeles.  His retired engineer dad Robert (Kline) takes a more regimented approach to grief, including putting the family home up for sale.  Both father and son set out on their own paths to find a new normal as unexpected circumstances and potential new love interests threaten to thwart all plans. Dean has been awarded The Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature at 201ribeca Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Performance US Narrative Feature at 2017 Gasparilla International Film Festival.

PHOENIX FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FILMS TO APPEAR IN 2017 FILM LINEUP!

 

The Phoenix Film Festival announced yesterday the films that will be showing at the 2017 Phoenix Film Festival.

The opening night film for the film festival will be the comedy/drama release of HERO starring Sam Elliott, as a Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. Nick Offerman, Laura Prepon, and Krysten Ritter co-star in the film.

THE LOST CITY OF Z– based on author David Grann’s nonfiction bestseller, The Lost City of Z tells the incredible true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett, who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Starring Charlie Hunnam. Robert Pattison, Sienna Miller, and Tom Holland

 

STEP- a documentary that documents the senior year of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore.  As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest in the troubled city.

 

NORMAN: THE MODERATE RISE AND TRAGIC FALL OF A NEW YORK FIXER- a small time operator who befriends a young politician at a low point in his life. Three years later, when the politician becomes an influential world leader, Norman’s life dramatically changes for better and worse. Starring Richard Gere, Lior Ashkenazi, Michael Sheen, Dan Stevens, Hank Azaria, and Steve Buscemi.

PATTI CAKE$- aspiring rapper Patricia Dombrowski, a.k.a. Killa P, a.k.a. Patti Cake$ is fighting an unlikely quest for glory in her downtrodden hometown in Jersey where her life is falling apart, Patti tries to reach the big time in the hip hop scene with original and affecting music. The closing night film is TOMMY’S HONOR based on the powerfully moving true story of the challenging relationship between “Old” Tom and “Young” Tommy Morris, the dynamic father-son team who ushered in the modern game of golf, starring Peter Mullan, Jack Lowden, Ophelia Lovibond, and Sam Neill.

MENASHE- within Brooklyn’s ultra-orthodox Jewish community, a widower battles for custody of his son. A tender drama performed entirely in Yiddish, the film intimately explores the nature of faith and the price of parenthood.

 

THE PROMISE- set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris – a renowned American journalist based in Paris Starring Oscar Issac, Christian Bale, and Charlotte Le Bon.
