Emily Movie Review

Once thought of as actress Frances O’Connor from such films as “Mansfield Park,” “A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE” and “The Conjuring 2,” she’s now Actress, Writer, and Director Frances O’Connor. And what an undertaking she took on for her debut film. I must first mention what a fine job she did choosing her cast and crew. Abel Korzeniowski’s score is nothing short of transcendent. During the opening credits, it’ll have you in the mood for something heavy and exciting to watch. And this will be the case during the remainder of the film. She couldn’t have picked a better costume designer, cinematographer, or cast, either.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

I Wanna Dance With Somebody Movie Review

“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is a detailed look at the life of singer Whitney Houston. She was a phenomenal performer and a gifted artist. She had a powerful influence on pop music and on society in general. While some Blacks chided her for sounding too ‘White’, she continued to rack up Number One hits. Her rise, and her eventual fall, was followed by every magazine and tabloid. This movie takes a deeper look at ‘The Voice’… Read more

SALVATORE: Shoemaker of Dreams Movie Review

When this documentary begins, we see a pair of red bejeweled high heel shoes being made. They’re moving from person to person. Several very skilled hands with a specific task to do in putting together this exceptional pair of shoes do a beautiful job with their particular role in the assignment. It’s actually rather fascinating to watch them become ready to wear. We then hear from Salvatore Ferragamo speaking of how he loves feet. They talk to him. In his hands, he felt their strengths, weaknesses, vitality and failings. He tells us feet are a “Masterpieces of fine workmanship.”

Blonde Movie Review

“Blonde,” a Marilyn Monroe biopic with fictional moments taken from the Joyce Carol Oates novel thrown in, didn’t give me what I expected it would. It gave me so much more. Having never felt one way or another about Marilyn Monroe, I assumed I’d be viewing a movie about her life that would have a revelation or two. I expected information about how she started in the business and to learn a little about her childhood. Perhaps this movie would dig a little deeper, but even so, that would be that.

Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song Movie Review

“Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song” as a documentary is, in short, a bit too much of a good thing. Toward the film’s end, Cohen suggests with a smile that maybe it’s time people stop singing the song for a while. Then the journey starts…
