Missing the days of the reliable Rom-com? “Theyyy’re baaack,” with “You, Me & Tuscany.” We meet Anna (Halle Bailey from “The Little Mermaid”) in a gorgeous penthouse, dressed to the Nines and carrying a pompous, fluffy little pooch. Anna is gorgeous, and so is the way in which she lives.
She loves her lavish treats, enjoys her bubble baths, and relishes her stylish clothes, as anyone would. Well, we quickly learn she is only the house sitter, and she just got caught by the occupant returning a tad earlier than Anna had expected.
Somewhat depressed, she tells her best friend that she wishes she had the life of someone else. Her friend tells her to stop borrowing from other people’s lives and to go live her own. She stresses that she needs to become who she set out to be before her losses. Later that night, Anna meets a handsome man named Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor from “Another Simple Favor”). Through a few drinks and light conversation, we learn that Anna went to culinary school only to come just shy of graduating when she had to care for her ailing mother, who became terminally ill. All hope of going back to school came crashing down when her mother passed away. Anna lost herself when she lost her mother. Matteo tells her about his family living in Italy. It’s wonderful, but his family wanted something for him that he didn’t want for himself. At the moment, they’re away. He tells her about the beauty of their home and their land.
As he speaks, she only hears that at present, no one is staying at the gorgeous house. This piques her interest and, being somewhat impulsive, Anna flies to Italy, finds the house, and lives a secret Italian moment. She takes full advantage of the situation, drinking wine, running through beautiful vineyards, eating delicious sandwiches, and being taken to areas where the views can be fully appreciated. The score and the scenery are utterly delicious. What I’m not going to tell you is with whom she is doing some of this?
Snooping in closets and drawers, as she had in other homes, she puts a diamond ring on her finger, which, of course, she finds difficult to remove. This is the time Matteo’s mother and his very suspicious Nonna show up. Caught again! What can she say to get her out of trouble this time?? Like a snowball rolling down a hill, a white lie can grow and transform into something you’re not ready to take on. It takes a strong personality to handle the challenge when it happens. Does Anna have what it takes to deal with what’s about to occur when the snowball becomes the size of a Tuscan village? Watch “You, Me & Tuscany” to find out.
The movie is witty and sweet, and Halle Bailey is adorable. Michael, played by Regé-Jean Page of “Bridgerton,” matches her energy step for step and keeps up with the romance the script is selling you. The way he looks at her is steamy, and those of you in love with love will love this story… and him without his shirt on, which they manage to fit into the storyline. Excuse the terrible spit-take. It wasn’t necessary, but with other Rom-com staples put in, why not add that one, right? Regardless, I think this movie has what it takes to fully entertain you. You will have some laughs and, if not taken so seriously, you’ll really enjoy yourself, because we all need a little warmth right now.
