Top 5 Most Iconic High Heel Moments in Movie History

This week, we’re taking a look at the top 5 most iconic high heel moments in movie history.

I still remember my first real pair of heels – they were white leather with a 3-inch heel. I was probably a women’s size 5 and still in elementary school (I was always one of, if not the, tallest in my class, so big feet came with the territory). I loved walking around my house in them and likely paired them with lace-trimmed floral biker shorts and an oversized neon t-shirt.

So, here’s to the heels – the ones that made a meet-cute, ones that stole the show, ones that

marked the makeover, ones that helped us find our way home, and ones that are still sought-after more than a decade later.

5. Nude Gucci Heels from “The Wedding Planner”

The Wedding Planner Jennifer Lopez High Heel gets stuck

Confession right out of the gate – I love “The Wedding Planner” and it’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Jennifer Lopez plays Mary Fiore, one of San Francisco’s top wedding planners.

Her meet-cute with Matthew McCaughney’s character is all thanks to a pair of shoes – her new Gucci shoes, to be exact.

While her precise shoes aren’t available retail anymore, I found two, more contemporary options at save and splurge price points, including these similar-with-a-fresh-take heels from Gucci. I also like these classic pumps that come in a good selection of colors, including a variety of skin tone colors to help your legs look their longest.

4. Glass Slippers from “Cinderella”

Whether you prefer the 1950s animated classic or the 2015 live-action adaptation, you can’t deny the power of Cinderella’s glass slipper. The animated feature was my first introduction to memorable movie high heels, and likely was yours, too.

If you are looking to add heels that are clearly above the rest to your collection, I love
these and these.

3. The Chanel Boots from “The Devil Wears Prada”

The queen of movie makeovers, Anne Hathaway really takes the cake with these thigh-high, high-heeled leather boots by Chanel. Who can forget the moment she breezed in the office to a gobsmacked Emily Blunt and Gisele Bundchen.

I, too, am in desperate need of Chanel and would LOVE a visit to the fashion closet of a glossy magazine. If anyone has a connection, help a sister out. Until then, I’ll dream of adding these Chanel booties to my personal closet.

2. The Ruby Slippers from “The Wizard of Oz”

“The Wizard of Oz” is stuffed to the brim with iconic songs, scenes, costumes and actors, not to mention Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

Did you know there are at least five known pairs of ruby slippers from the film still in existence? One is at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Another was on display at the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, before they were stolen – yes! Someone stole the ruby slippers! – and ultimately found 13 years later in 2018.

Need a little magic for your own? Three clicks and you’ll be right at home in these heels that give me major Dorothy Gale vibes.

1. Manolo Blahnik Hangisi from “Sex and the City”

Take royal blue satin, wrap it around skyscraping 4.5-inch stilettos, and finish it off with a jewel buckle embellishment at an almond toe, and you have fashionista footwear goals for more than a decade. Carrie’s wedding shoe, Manolo Blahnik’s Hangisi, will cost you nearly $1,000 retail, but if you’re a savvy shopper, you may find a pair at a consignment shop or online resale site like eBay or Poshmark.

If you’re looking for something nearly identical but without the hefty price tag, I love the look of these heels.

I’d love to know what you think. Did I include your favorite(s) on the list? Let me know in the comments below!

Fashion has long been my passion. Aside from building my own personal wardrobe and helping friends do the same, I love to explore the way clothes and accessories can enhance a character in a film.
