Searchlight Pictures and Hulu Will Release Questlove’s ‘Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)’ on July 2, 2021

Los Angeles, CA, April 5, 2021 – Searchlight Pictures and Hulu, together with Disney General Entertainment’s new BIPOC Creator Initiative, announced the release date for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s debut film SUMMER OF SOUL (…OR, WHEN THE REVOLUTION COULD NOT BE TELEVISED), winner of both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival. The film will be released in theaters and streaming on Hulu in the U.S. on July 2, 2021.
Summer of Soul premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award. Together with Disney’s new BIPOC Creator Initiative, Searchlight Pictures will release it theatrically, as well as streaming exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. on July 2. The film will also stream internationally on Star at a date to be confirmed.
