Five Nights At Freddy's 2

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Movie Review

“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” goes into the pizzeria from Hell, once again. This is the abandoned pizza place that was featured in the first movie. That is the one with spooky animatronics that come to life in dark places. The story is continued, even after the story seemed to come to an end.

The prior movie was about “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza”, the place that closed down years ago. There was a security guard hired named Mike Schmidt (played by Josh Hutcherson). Mike was taking care of his younger sister, Abby (played by Piper Rubio). Mike met and then worked with Vanessa (played by Elizabeth Lail). She was a cop who helped bring a serial killer to justice.

Of course, the killer of that movie was Vanessa’s father — William Afton (played by Matthew Lillard). He would wear a costume to attract kids and kill them. But all of that is in the past, right? Well, not really. Vanessa still has nightmares of her father returning. Abby had bonded with the animatronic creatures at Freddy’s – all of which came to life.

A year later, Abby still wants to meet with her ‘friends’, the large animal creatures at Freddy’s. But Mike wants to put all behind them and move on. Abby goes to school and is learning about robotics in class. The teacher, Mr. Byrd (played by Wayne Knight) does not support Abby at all. He doesn’t want her to be part of the special science fair.

Mike and Vanessa meet for dinner, and Abby says this must be a date. Abby sneaks away and goes to the closed Freddy’s. Her animatronic friends come to life again. They like Abby, and want to help her in any way that they can. Abby’s best friend is Chica (voiced by Megan Fox).

The current Freddy’s security guard is named Michael (played by Freddy Carter). He lets a team of TV paranormal investigators into Freddy’s one night. This small team is led by Lisa (played by Mckenna Grace).

She and her team are attacked and killed by the evil animatronics. But these are not the same ones at the closed pizza place where Abby had gone. This is a different Freddy’s location, and this one still has an evil influence.

There is another animatronic called the Marionette. This one has the spirit of a murdered little girl named Charlotte. Back in 1982, she was a close friend of young Vanessa. But now — in this version of Freddy’s — the deadly rage of Charlotte lives on.

There are the evil Freddy’s creatures at one closed pizza place, and there are sweet and supportive animatronics at the one where Mike used to work. The evil mascots have killed Lisa and her team of investigators. They also went after and killed Mr. Byrd, the nasty science teacher. Vanessa and Mike find out that there are new evil robots on the loose.

The mastermind of the evil mascots is the Marionette. She convinces Abby to unlock the special computer code that locked them into the closed area of Freddy’s. Now these evil monsters are free to roam. They have a new goal. They are on the hunt to kill all the parents, the parents that allowed Charlotte to be murdered all those years ago.

Mike and Vanessa need to work together, again, to stop the rampaging robotic mascots. Mike uses his computer skills to try and stop the creatures as they start to roam the town. Vanessa takes off to get to town to warn all the people who might be in danger. Abby is back at home, unaware that there are evil versions of the large, cute animatronics. These are out to get her, also.

These events are all taking place while the “Annual Fazfest” is going on in the town. The best place for evil animatronic robots to hide out is in with a bunch of people in “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza” costumes. The evil robot versions just happen to be seven feet tall. So, they blend right in.

Mike and Abby finally get some help from Abby’s ‘friends’, the robots they she befriended in the first movie. Vanessa and Mike have a falling out, because Mike did not want Abby to get exposed into the crazy “Freddy’s environment once again.

Everything seems to be back to normal. Until Vanessa realizes that the evil Marionette is still on the loose…

—————————————————————————————————————-

“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” is an attempt to retread something that kinda worked for the first movie. It works to bring back all the main talent from the first feature. Returning are the Director (Emma Tammi) and the Writer (Scott Cawthon) Cawthorn is also the developer of the original video game.

Others who are back again are Josh Hutcherson (Mike), Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa), and Piper Rubio (Abby). Also, in a brief appearance is Matthew Lillard – playing as Vanessa’s evil father, William Afton. But since he was killed earlier in the first movie, he only shows up in nightmare scenes. The returning animatronics for all of the Freddy’s creates are back.

But the biggest thing that has not returned was any sense of logic or easy to follow story line. Gone is the joy that Abby had when she found her new ‘friends’. Gone is the playful interaction between Mike and Vanessa. Not showing up is any type of main villain who would be the main focus of the movie.

But the dull drumbeat of “Freddy’s” seems destined to continue. Or, at least that is what the producers want to have happen. The ending displays all the earmarks of a “this tale will continue to be told” setup for another movie. But will anyone be interested when this current movie is just not all that good?

“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” wants to have audiences clambering for continued adventures. But this movie is as broken-down as all of Freddy’s animatronic friends.
